Our small town in the northeastern corner of Nova Scotia (pop 5,195) is a hub and service center for the rural communities surrounding it. With a diverse and growing population, Antigonish is a family friendly town with lots of opportunity, access to good education at all levels, recreation, sports and culture activities. Festivals & Events

Antigonish is the Highland Heart of Nova Scotia, knitting its Scottish roots tightly into the community. Take in the Highland Games, Antigonish International Film Festival, Festival Antigonish, Antigonish Performing Arts Series (Concerts), Antigonish Culture Alive (Art Fairs etc.), or the Eastern Nova Scotia Exhibition.

Theatre & Entertainment

Catch a movie at Cineplex Theatres, or take in a live show. The Antigonish Ceilidh Association, Theatre Antigonish and the Antigonish Review, keep culture alive throughout the calendar year.

Local Attractions

Local attractions, such as the Cape George Lighthouse, Antigonish Heritage Museum and Chez Deslauriers, quench the thirst for historical learning. If you’re up for a longer day, head to Sherbrooke Village, an hour’s drive from Antigonish, and dive into another time period. Experience life before the 1900s in this village-sized interactive museum.

Golfing

Golfers can tee off at the challenging 18-hole Antigonish Golf Club. They can also practice their short game at the mini putt at Snow Queen Leisure World while the rest of the family takes in the go-kart track, space train, bumper boats and cars, or batting cage.

Skating/Hockey

The Keating Centre is a State-of-the-art arena and conference centre is home to St. FX varsity hockey, figure skating, youth and adult hockey, and public skating. The Antigonish Arena entertains the area with Junior B Bulldogs hockey, senior men’s and minor hockey, figure skating and adult and tots skating.

Take a private stroll through our beautifully landscapped grounds, walk along the Antigonish Harbour, or explore the many trails and provincial parks throughout the Antigonish area – Antigonish Landing, Arisaig Provincial Park, Beaver Mountain Fairmont Ridge, Keppoch Mountain (with new Accessible Trail) and Pomquet Acadian Trail.

Beaches

Spend your summer days playing in the sand and surf at Mahoney’s, Jimtown, Pomquet, Bayfield, Chisholm’s and Cribbons beaches.

Scenic Drives

Just the drive along the North Shore is worth the adventure. You’ll be surrounded by coastal cliffs, centuries-old fishing ports, gorgeous sunsets (or sunrises, if you’re up that early) and panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean.

Along Main Street, you’ll find an array of shops dedicated to quality retail, amenities, fashions for the entire family and gift boutiques – a delightful balance to fulfil your needs and satisfy your desires. Antigonish Mall, off Church Street, offers shopping for groceries, fashion, professional services, health care and much more.

Don’t miss the Antigonish Farmers Market, a year-long weekly fair of locally grown fruits and vegetables, meat, maple syrup, honey, preserves, baked goods, heritage products and local handicrafts. Find the market at Antigonish Arena during the summer months and at the Antigonish Education Centre on Appleseed Drive during the winter.

St. Martha’s Regional Hospital offers a wide range of services, including emergency and ambulatory care, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery, palliative care, obstetrics, pediatrics and more.

Close proximity to pharamcies with Shoppers Drug Mart, MacKinnon’s Pharmasave and Haliburtons PharmaChoice, all located on Main Street, and Lawtons at the Antigonish Shopping Mall.

Education

Antigonish is home to state-of-the-art educational facilities, including one of Canada’s top undergraduate universities, St. Francis Xavier University which adds to the vibrancy of the town.
