Environmental Hero Award given to Community Garden Co-op

The Maples Discovery Gardens Co-op own Bruce Van Garden has been given the prestigious Environmental Hero Award for 2010.  Presented to Bruce by Langley MP Mark Warawa for the community gardens environmental stewardship in the business category.  Bruce works tirelessly to ensure that only natural soil amendmentsare use by the Co-op members in their garden plots and he manages the 6 plus acres of botanical gardens and plantings in and around Latimer Creek in the same manner.  Please drop by the Maples Discovery Gardens at 7743 200th Street in Langley, and shake hands or share a story with a real live environmental hero.

Accessible Community Gradens Available

The Maples Discovery Gardens Co-op now has accessible garden table plots for people with mobility disabilities using a wheelchair, scooter or walker.  These tables allow you to have access to the full square footage for planting and growing your own food.  Drop by the Maples today to sign up and start planting.

June 6-12 is Seniors week. 

We need volunteers to help out in the gardens.  If you love to be outside and enjoy nature then please give us a call at 604-888-0240

Save The Date - May 8, 2010

On May 8, 2010 the Maples Discovery Gardens Co-op will be having a huge plant sale with over 500 plants from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.  This is a fundraiser for the Horticulture Entrepreneurial Incbator (HEI)program that provides education to people with developmental disabilites in horticulture by growing their own food and brining it to market.  Volunteers will be needed.  Please join us for a fun filled day.  Contact Cheryl at 604-888-0240 or cheryl@maplesliving.ca to participate.

Lets Get Gardening

The gardens are bursting with new growth because of the warm winter we have had here in Langley. 

 Just a reminder to memebers that we need to know if you are renewing your membership and plot lease for 2010 as we have a wating list for the garden plots.  Please let us know by February 19, 2010 if possible.

Community Gardens needs volunteers

Do you have time on your hands and like to get them dirty.  The Maples Discovery Gardens in Langley BC needs volunteers to help with potting perennials, pruning, and general clean up of the gardens for the winter months. Any amount of time would be greatly appreciated.

Maples Discovery Gardens Fall work party

Co-op members and volunteers are gathering on Sept 26, 2009 for a very interesting and social garden work party during which the pot luck lunch will include food from the community gardens. RSVP to Cheryl at 604-888-0240 by Sept 23rd.

The pumpkins are almost ready and we will be having a pumpkin carving day on Oct 24th.  Bring your carving tools and the kids to this fun event.
